In November 2009 the BBPI-led consortium Fire Support was declared Preferred Bidder on a £36m project to provide 10 new community fire stations in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, UK.
The scheme will see seven fire stations rebuilt and the construction of an additional three stations in areas where the Fire and Rescue Authority has determined there is a need for additional resources.
By working in partnership with stakeholders, Fire Support has designed landmark buildings whose forms are instantly recognisable, creating a clear identity for Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Authority.
This identity is captured in both the external form and in the internal layouts which have been designed specifically to allow operational personnel to move between stations easily.
All the stations will boast community and 21st Century operational facilities. Stations crewed around the clock are also to include fitness facilities that can be used by supervised groups. Community groups will be able to use the facilities and the newly designed stations will also allow for more community safety activities to take place, such as student fire-fighter courses.
