Bilfinger Berger Project Investments has redeveloped three secondary schools in Clackmannanshire, Scotland. These new buildings provide accommodation for more than 3,000 pupils.
The three schools have been developed as separate sites, since each represents different educational requirements. This was achieved through close co-operation with local educational depart¬ments, councils and communities.
Each of the schools is distinct from each other. Lornshill Academy has a strong castle design befitting its dramatic hilltop location, giving it a prominent place both visually and geographically as a shared community resource. The inclusive design of the Alloa Academy has allowed the integration of pupils with Additional Support Needs from the previous Fairfield school into a mainstream schooling environment and the design of the new Alva Academy took account of its more spacious location to produce a new building that is already a source of pride for the local community.
BBPI and its partners have created a much more comfortable and enjoyable learning environment. There are interactive whiteboards in almost every classroom and all furniture and fittings are new and have been especially selected for the purpose at hand.
Ralph Barker, head teacher at Alloa Academy commented, “This school is perfect in every way. As well as being well designed and pleasant to work in, it achieves the purpose for which it was built – to educate the young people of Alloa using the best facilities available in the country.”
